I'm giving my bumblefooted RIR a penicillin shot in a minute. Never gave a chicken a shot before. I do it in the thigh right? 1cc?

Wait a minute...my penicillin says:

PEN BP-48
Penicillin G Benzathine and
Penicillin G Procaine in
Aqueous Suspension

Is that what I give? Is that a stupid question?

BP-48 is a long-acting penicillin (48 hours). I'm not sure on the dosage for chickens, but it is 1 cc per 20 lb. bodyweight for pigs. I would use 0.5 cc on a hen or rooster. Also, give it on day 1 and then skip a day and give it again. This will give you 96 hr of penicillin in the blood stream. It is important that the antibiotic is in th eblood stream long enough to kill the bacteria.
