Proper way to hold a chicken?

It can kill a chicken to be upside down for a long tie. I know people whos chickens have been caught upside down for a few hours. The chickens died within the day.

my chickens seem to be pretty mellow about picking them up. I usually just pick them up and carry them with two hands around their whole body, so their legs are hanging out.

i suppose the "official" way would be to carry them by their legs upside down or once i read somewhere that you carry them by their legs under your arm so their head is sticking out behind you
