Pros and Cons of Easter Eggers

Okay, so I must know what everyone thinks about Easter Eggers! I have figured out that they are a little flighty, dumb, and stubborn, but is that just me? They are also extremely friendly and lay great! Please tell me what you think about them and what kinds of problems you have been having with them. THANKS

I love mine for the greenish eggs as well as their unique coloration. Once in awhile I get one that is a little flighty but otherwise no complaints.

Well mine is only 4 weeks old, but she's a scaredy cat. She doesn't mind me, but anything else startles her right away. Grasshoppers scare her now and my cochins snatch them up!

I had an EE that was super friendly, in fact, she would fly up onto my arm for treats. I lost her this year at 4 years old a couple months ago. So now I have 4 EE babies with my broody.

My pure Ameraucana's I have had have been crazy flighty.

The colored eggs and different colors are the only thing my Easter egger hens got going for me, all 3 are flighty and don't appear to like me sitting in my chair in their run. While everyone else fights for the lap seat or pick at toes, they hide in the coop.

I have some EEs that are curious and sweet and others that have been more on the flighty side. I love the different variations in the green and blue colored eggs.

Welp I actually have no idea what kind of chickens I have after waaay too many internet searches. I was told they were Easter eggers and I have such a mixed bag of personalities its a bit like Dynasty!! I have 2 hens that are friendly, pettable, and very curious about me..they run to me when I head out to the coop. One (who we now think is male) is very dominant but still scared of any people. Our last girl is very skiddish as well and lacks any assertiveness at all. They are so much fun so far I can't wait to see what "egg surprises" they give me when they start to lay!!

We have 6 Easter Eggers. All are different colors so we can tell them apart, 2 are very friendly. 2 somewhat friendly and the other 2 are skittish. We have 2 classic black and brown(red?), 2 black and white, 2 unique colored that do not look like any other ee we have.

From the Easter Eggers I have raised, these are the pros and cons that I have seen/know of
Pros:
-lay beautiful pretty colored eggs
-each is unique and come in any color
-all the different colors they come in makes it easy to tell them apart
-peacombs make them winter hardy
-very kind birds
-only one of mine went broody once (this could be a pro or con depending on if you want chicks or not)
-you never really know what they'll look like as they get older
-from what I've heard, the roosters are generally docile, mine was
-seems to be fine with confinement or free ranging
-the babies look like chipmunks!!

Cons:
-usually slow to mature
-flighty
-don't do do well in very hot climates
-not extremely consistant layers. I have 5 laying right now and get anywhere from 0-5 each day. I can't really predict how many I will get.
-aren't a recognized breed so they can't be shown

WOW. thanks, this is really good info. I agree with you. I am having the same types of problems. Mine are flighty, took forever to mature, lay inconsistently. But they are also very friendly and are so pretty.
