Some like it earlier, some like it on day 15. I've even heard as late as day 15 and a half. I'm planning on day 15 myself because my incubator is so wonky. And they go to lockdown on day 15?
I'm still new at sexing, but I believe that Celadons and Pharoah are both sexually dimorphic and can be feather sexed. Males will have a rusty chest (according to their color) and females will have a striped/spotted chest. Otherwise you'll have to vent sex them, which has you flip the birds onto their back and press the vent. If it's bulbous and a foam comes out, it's usually a male.Oh and how do you sex these breeds?
Celadon and pharaoh
If I find Californias I'll get those too. Lol
keep in mind that pharaoh is a color variation of the cotunix, and celadon simply means they carry genes to lay blue eggs. Whether they lay blue or patterned eggs, Japanese quails can come in all kind of different colors and pattensI decided I'm going to get 9 celadon and 6 pharaoh eggs. Does it sound good?
And any advice about inbreeding? Do I need a non related male? Because I'm certainly not getting adult birds. Any poultry. I'm just worried I'll bring a disease in to the flock
Oh right! Thanks!keep in mind that pharaoh is a color variation of the cotunix, and celadon simply means they carry genes to lay blue eggs. Whether they lay blue or patterned eggs, Japanese quails can come in all kind of different colors and pattens![]()

ETA: I believe Celadons are simply a bird with the blue egg gene. Not sure about Pharaohs if they're just slang for 'Regular brown coturnix quail' or they're jumbo sized birds. More experienced folks can correct me on that![]()
