Pros and Cons of quail?

Pics
quail roosters that arent used to each other will sometimes kill each other.
if allowed they will clean up their mess all you have to do is give them enough feed that their feeder is empty by 3:00ish and they will peck up their mess. My quail empty about half their feeder in minutes

How many eggs: I started off my quail with 90-100 eggs.

Males: I butcher them

Egg production: I got one egg in October or so and have never gotten another one.

Personality: I choose not to connect with mine as I easily become attached to things, and I need to be able to not have any emotional attachment for my goals. With attention they could be quite sweet though.

Set up: I love mine. I will get photos for you later.

Are they worth it? Depends on your goals. They are worth it to me because they are just for fun.

Humanely dispatching quail is a simple matter of cutting off their head with sharp scissors under a running faucet. When they quit twitching, it's a matter of 2 minutes to fully dress the bird (sacrificing the skin to avoid plucking) and as little as another 2 minutes of cooking and it's dinnertime.

A serious advantage of quail is that they don't get tough with age like chickens do. If you discover that you've got a bully... no problem, he'll be just as tender at 8 months as he was at 6 weeks.

omg omg omg I’m so excited for you!!!
please link me when you have a thread up :D

I haven’t had them too long, so I have a limited pros and cons list, haha.

Pros of coturnix quails:
- quiet (they make cute little piggy noises when I bring them food in the morning!)
- smaller footprint needed per bird
- lays eggs in just 2 months!
- will lay an egg every single day when conditions are ideal

Cons
- they. poop. so. much.
- Skittish. Even if you manage to get them to be somewhat tame, they will become skittish again after a few days of decreased interaction.
- will not return if accidentally let out of their enclosure
one of mine escaped (well half did) but i only found it because a magpie was stalking it
their camo is excellent I walked right by it and did not see it

I'm st

I'm still new at sexing, but I believe that Celadons and Pharoah are both sexually dimorphic and can be feather sexed. Males will have a rusty chest (according to their color) and females will have a striped/spotted chest. Otherwise you'll have to vent sex them, which has you flip the birds onto their back and press the vent. If it's bulbous and a foam comes out, it's usually a male.

ETA: I believe Celadons are simply a bird with the blue egg gene. Not sure about Pharaohs if they're just slang for 'Regular brown coturnix quail' or they're jumbo sized birds. More experienced folks can correct me on that :)
Pharaoh quail are the wild and slightly smaller version of Japanese,
coturnix is the class, pharaoh is the species

Aren't celadons brown with white breast? Or is that the colour Tuxedo? Lol I'm a bit confused.

Would it work if I vent sexed them at 1day old and seperate the males from females?
celadons come in all colors. I could show you mine when i get home! Mine are in silver pharoah, silver, rosetta, tibetan tux, pharoah, gold and english white to name a few. They all lay blue eggs, it’s the blue eggs that makes them “celadon”
