Pros and Cons of quail?

omg omg omg I’m so excited for you!!!
please link me when you have a thread up :D

I haven’t had them too long, so I have a limited pros and cons list, haha.

Pros of coturnix quails:
- quiet (they make cute little piggy noises when I bring them food in the morning!)
- smaller footprint needed per bird
- lays eggs in just 2 months!
- will lay an egg every single day when conditions are ideal

Cons
- they. poop. so. much.
- Skittish. Even if you manage to get them to be somewhat tame, they will become skittish again after a few days of decreased interaction.
- will not return if accidentally let out of their enclosure
The skittish part is SO true. Unbelievably hard to catch. (Some)

I decided I'm going to get 9 celadon and 6 pharaoh eggs. Does it sound good?
And any advice about inbreeding? Do I need a non related male? Because I'm certainly not getting adult birds. Any poultry. I'm just worried I'll bring a disease in to the flock

Ok thanks! And do you candle? Or only when putting them in lockdown?
You’re welcome 😊
There are probably certain days that are recommended to candle them, but really you can do it whenever you want
(I candle WAY more than I probably should  but I love seeing them develop 😁)

That's great! Thanks.

Are green or brown eggs harder to candle? I'm guessing green? 🤷‍♀️
