Pros and cons of where you live?

I have moved a lot, born in Florida, then to 3 houses in Colorado, to New Mexico, etc.
Each place was so different and all had their pros and cons. I’m curious, what are the pros and cons of where you live currently?

For me the biggest con would be the strange temps, one minute its -30 looking like a tornado will hit and the next its 60 outside with birds chirping.
The pros for me is the gorgeous hiking trails and forests and beautiful lakes, ponds and brooks.
I’m in Connecticut.

Fun thread! I'm in Missouri. I used to live in Jefferson City, the capital, but we moved into a much more rural area in SW MO a year ago when my husband retired.

Pros: Most people who aren't from here think it's all St. Louis and Kansas City and nothing in between. But in-between in the good stuff.

Missouri is pretty. Very green. Lots of trees, small towns, rolling hills, even small mountains, and lots of lakes.

Friendly people for the most part, the kind that offer you help if your car breaks down, etc. There are still places where you can leave your doors unlocked.

Winters aren't terrible. I've lived here 59 years. We have had one true blizzard. We get some ice and snow, but generally it stays above zero and if it goes that low, it will likely not stay long.

The cost of living is low. A decent to very nice house can be had for about $150 to $200k. Wages are low...but minimum waste is $12 an hour.. not much lower than Colorado where prices are double.

Cons

All the rest of the weather. Summers tend toward hot and humid. We get floods. We get tornados. Really, it's unpredictable weather. This past week we had a low of 19 and the chicken water froze solid. Two days later I tended them in a t-shirt. We even have the possibility of a huge earthquake thanks to the New Madrid fault.

It's politically very far right-wing Might not be a bad thing for some, but there still a lot of racism, rednecks and confederate flags flying. I have to struggle to keep my mouth shut sometimes.

We live on the Monaro, south east NSW Australia.
Cons;
nearest shops are around a 30 to 60 min drive away, depending whether the river near us is up or not.

I can't really think of any more.

Pros;
The biggest one first, is we are in one of the places least likely to get bush fires.
It is a safe area, we can pretty much do what we want without worrying about other people.
There are some great dust roads! (great fun going to town)
There is a river on one end of our land, which even in draughts never dries up.

I can properly think of some more pros and cons, but that us a start.

where I live: California

pros: we have In-N-Out, we have people from all around the world (aka cultural diversity), and can’t forget the amazingly boring weather. If you’re tired of snow or intense heat come to California

cons: everything is either illegal or needs a license/permit, we have taxes on most everything, and we are also in a drought that I’m starting to think is permanent. Don’t even get me started on crime/unemployment rate cuz it’s bad

My mom was raised in California and she describes it quite similar to that! I think it‘s so pretty though.

It is beautiful, but it can be brutal as well.
In, I think 2020? there was the worst bush fires ever. Basically, if you went 50km from us in any direction, you would have come to one.
The smoke was so thick it went as dark as night, and we never knew when we might have to get up and either go or fight.
Luckly, it never came to that, but friend of ours lost most of their horses, and talking to them afterwards really brought it home.

Depends on which part I guess. CA is pretty big. SF has been a mess these couple of years. Lots of theft and not enough legal action. Many people leave their cars wide open just to prevent a break in…talk about trust issues lol

Dang, thats horrible. I remember my aunt got her cats stolen while they were on her porch.. Crazy someone would even consider doing something like that.
