Hello everyone,
My Black Australorps have just hatched there first chicks, but big daddy roaster will not let me near the coop. I put a chick water near the big water. I am concerned it is to far away from the babies. I have only raised chicks from eggs without a hen or roaster. This is my first time naturally doing it. Many forums say feed them the same food. Should I switch everyone to starter feed? How do I check the chicks for pastie butt or any other issues? He will not let me anywhere near his ladies. He goes into attack mode when I try to get close to even change the bedding. Thank you in advance for any help.

Unless it’s necessary that you check on them right now, you can check on them at night. The rooster will be on the roost and won’t try to attack you.
