Protruding vent?

Sorry, I would not put her in the brooder if there are other chicks in there - they can pick at that protrusion and damage it. I would put her back into the incubator isolated for a while to see if it gets better.

I posted photos. took her out and put her in her own little enclosure with paper towels and put her back in the incubator.

Unless I'm looking at this wrong, that is the navel with an unabsorbed yolk sac. I would put some plain neosporin or bacitracin on that. Put her in a paper towel lined cup and put her back in the incubator.

Yolk not fully absorbed. I put them into a margarine container and wait till full absorbed in the incubator.

Sp it will get fully absorbed? How long will that take roughly?

Sounds good. I will do that. I did put her back in the incubator. Hubby will be bringing home bacitracin to put on it tonight when he gets home from work. How long does it take to absorb back in?

I never put anything on them or water them till up on their feet..Time is what they need and rest.

I’m not claiming expert status. You see in the third photo that crusty thread/string of tissue coming off the end of the “balloon”? Also, I can’t see an opening. The vent should have an outlet and despite the swelling, I think it would be visible. You can tell that better than I could... maybe it’s not visible in the photos. It really seems to be unabsorbed yolk sac. It’s likely hiding/compressing the actual vent (between navel and tip of tail).

Whether it will absorb and heal, I think you’ll have to wait and see. If you put it with the other babies, they’ll peck at it, so if you want to remove it from the brooder, put it in its own box. You can use a heating pad (wrapped in a protective bag or etc.) or seedling heat mat. (Most therapeutic heating pads have an auto shut-off after 2 hours.)

Thank you everyone. This is my first time hatching eggs and while exciting, its almost more nerve wracking then giving birth to my own babies! I have taken the chick and put it in a Tupperware container lined with paper towels and put it back in the incubator. I have polysporin - some others had posted to put on Neosporin or Bacitracin - can polysporin be applied? The chicks brood mate that hatched a day ahead saw her/him when I was transferring and is now chirping like crazy! I bet he/she has been lonely.

One more egg to see if it will hatch. There is such a learning curve! Thank you for all the advise.

Never even thought of that!! I put in a smaller stuffed animal that my kiddos don't play with. it was cuddling with it all night...
