We incubated 7 eggs from our Barred Rock hens and all but one hatched yesterday!! Actually, we knew that one wasn't fertile when we candled at the end of week one.

We read that 60% usually hatch. Beginner luck, maybe?

So now we have 6 black fuz balls :) they're so darn cute!

This is our first little one that hatched!

Momma just blow drying us to make us fluffy :)
(Poor little birdies wouldn't dry at all because the humidity was 99%!!! I did my research and found that using a hair dryer would do the trick.)

Hanging with my peeps, all warm and cozy!
(My husband decided to use the indoor/outdoor thermometer in the brooder as well. He put the outdoor temp sensor under the light to know how hot it got and the indoor part on the other side away from the light to know how cool it was.)

Just had to post this and share our first time ever hatching chicks.

So far so good :)

Congratulations! That's something I'd like to do in a couple of years. :D

Thanks y'all! It was actually easier than I'd thought it would be.

They are now 5 days old :) Just peck in' away.

Already growing their feathers!

Still trying to sex them. I've read that hens have two rows of feathers, roosters have one row and get hens get their feather faster than roosters. If so, then these are all hens......I think. :)

We shall se when they have completely feathered out.
