I'm just starting in the world of chicken raising. I have three little boys and I wish I had grown up on a farm so I'm bringing some of the farm to them. We just got a 20 week Barred Rock and two 6 week old Black Australorps. We're got a great coop and yard and we let them free range in the backyard for a little while each day (supervised) their are too many cats and dogs in are neighborhood to let them have free reign all the time.
After reading the forums I've learned that it will be okay to feed them all grower and make some oyster shell available too. That makes me happy because I was afraid I would have to segregate them until they were all laying 4 months from now. I've been slowly integrating the two ages of birds and they are at the point that they seem to just stay away from each other without fighting but they don't hang out together. I expect that will come when their differences in size aren't so great.
