Just finished trimming the feathers around my six silkies' eyes.
It's amazing; they can actually see now. It takes about one minute per.
Strongly suggest that anyone who has silkies or children of husbands get the following beard trimmer for haircuts:
...
Remington titanium mustache and beard trimmer; it adjusts from 0 to 3/4-inch length. I used 1/8 inch on the silkies around their eyes.

I bet that was entertaining to watch! Did you play the theme song to the Benny hill show while doing it?

I do sometimes trim my polish hens powder puff.

You really have to look closely to see the difference. They still have 90% of that ball shaped head. I only cut off enough so that each one could see up, down, and sideways. No matter how good quality they are, I don't intend to ever take my black, blue, splash (bbs) silkies to or expose them to whatever at a show, so I only want them to be able to see well, especially when they're in the backyard and might have to be on the lookout for hawks.
As they were, they could not even see mealworms when Anne put them on the ground. The oldest bbs silkie has been trimmed before, and she really had the advantage over the five top-notch teenagers that I bought as bbs chicks from Little Ameraucana Mom, Greencastle, Indiana, this summer.

I was just now answering another post about trimming silkies, so I did a Google search and found this:
Macy's has it on SALE for $20. They're usually close to $40, but Macy's says the regular price is $30. This one, however, looks a bit different than mine, but I'd bet that it's as good or better.

Dang, just checked at Amazon, and they have it for $15... plus, shipping is free if you spend $25.
