Pretty sure we have chicken mites. Feathers are missing on the girls backs. And I can't seem to find any other reason for it. I bought prozap Permetherine - insectrine dust for livestock and poultry. Will this work on mites? Does anyone have experience with it? And is it safe to eat the eggs produced over the next few weeks?

It says to use 1lb per 100 birds. We have 7 one year olds and 20 ten week olds. Do I just dust the ground or the chickens themselves?

All advice is appreciated. Thanks!

If you have a roo that can be a cause for feathers to be missing from the girls' backs.

I put Permethrin Poultry Dust in a tied-off sock and turn a chicken on its back on the ground (best to line the ground with plastic bag). I dust the vent area, under wings, and abdomen. Then I turn chicken over and dust the back and neck (everywhere except the face). We do continue eating eggs ourselves after treatment but I have no idea what is recommended.

Be SURE to retreat at 7 days for mites (also treat the coop and toss all nesting material and shavings) to kill hatching eggs. If treating for lice repeat at 14 days.

I do this every 2-4 months for my chickens to keep the mites away. They come in on the wild birds.

Make sure you wear a mask, long sleeves, gloves and take shower afterward.
