psycho quail

Thanks everyone. An update. After two unsuccessful attempts at reconciliation this weekends attempt has resulted in two happy boys roosting side by side in harmony with contented noises. Hopefully peaceful at least until next spring. Phew

I think you should permanently separate them. If they have been mounting each other (this is a sign of dominance/aggression) and fighting they will just do it again. Can't you get them some girls? I'm afraid you will come home one day to find one of them dead.

They do still occasionally try to mount each other. But they are soooo much happier now they are together again and the crowing has diminished . i dont have space for the no of girls id need and my husband doesnt want our whole outside space full of quail s____! His expletive! I hope there isnt a murder but there are lots of places to hide and run for them so im keeping fingers crossed it was spring fever. I know now why male birds just end up in the pot
