Hi! I’m wondering how to tell if something is illness or they are just resting. First timer so I’m still learning about chicken behaviors.

My chicks will often lay down, puffed up. Some will lay together. At different times of the day. Mostly evening so I’d like to think they are tired. But one looks like it’s gasping. They all eat and drink and come for eggs. What can this be? I’m concerned

Also is there a way to attach a video?

For video, upload to youtube and provide a link.

How old are your chicks?
Do you provide any heat for them?
What's the temp in your brooder?
If you can get a photos of their poop that would be good.

5 weeks old, at the recommendation of one of the admins in a prior post I removed the heat plate. They seem to be doing ok without it, my house is consistently

they seem to be ok. Poop is normal, at the recommendation of one of the moderators I took the heat plate out and they have been comfortable in the house. I’ve had a lot of rain so I wanted to wait until we have consistent 70 degree 55 degree nights and fully feathered to put them outside. They were piling at night terrified when I shut off the light so I made them another roost that’s higher up they can all fit on and they have been sleeping on the roost at night. Prior to that I was leaving a soft light on for them at night but I think it messed with their day/night clock. I had to put a few of them on the roost so they got the hang of it but so far it seems to have fixed the problem.

I think they were napping during the day on the floor and it freaked me out because usually they go under the heat plate to do that so I didn’t usually see them do that. Otherwise doing normal chick things and eating and drinking.
