I had a healthy 2 month old chic. I noticed that after totally normal behavior, she always looked puffed up, hunched over, and did not stretch her neck out to peck. When she jumped up she'd lose her balance because she did not stretch her neck. She ate and drank. I believe (it was hers) that when she pooped there was a red thread like substance in it. Then she was dead. No more poop like tha IMG_0629.jpg IMG_0629.jpg

Thanks for your insight. ValerieS

That looks very much like coccidiosis, which causes runny poop with mucus or blood, lethargy, hunched or puffed up posture, poor appetite, and ruffled feathers. Corid (amprollium) is the usual treatment in the water for 5-7 days. Coccidia is in the soil and droppings, and chickens slowly build up resistant to it as they age, but if there is a large exposure, they can become sick and die. A vet can check some fresh droppings for coccidia just to make sure the others are not affected. or you can give them a treatment. Dosage is 2 tsp of liquid Corid, or 1.5 tsp of powder Corid in a gallon of water for 5-7 days. Sorry for your loss.
