Puffy around one leg

One of my 7 wk old girls has a puffy area around her leg. Her walk seems the tiniest bit strained. So little that I’m not sure it really is! The only other thing is that she sleeps quite a bit more than her sister. She has never been as energetic though. I can’t feel anything weird and she doesn’t cry when I mess with the area. It’s on her left side. Any help or thoughts at all are greatly appreciated.

What breed is your goose? I raise Pilgrims, which have "lobes" that hang down from their bellies - it's been described as looking like "MC Hammer" pants by another BYCer.

Can you post a pic from the front, looking underneath? Another option is to feel the area and describe it.

Yes, my girls are Pilgrims! I hope it’s just because of that. My husband and I love them so much. “Swana” is the only one that has the poof though, and only on one side. Much to her dismay, I grabbed her again to check. It just feels like loose skin, with no bumps or lumps or anything. I just now took a front pic, but she wouldn’t stand still. The other pic is just because it’s cute! One other thing is that Swana decided she would fit through a cattle panel to get to the tasty grape vines. She discovered too late that she was too big, and when I turned around to see her screaming, she flopped onto the ground before I could help her. I was afraid maybe she hurt her leg. That was about a week ago. Hubby tells them “The purpose of your brain is to tell your feet where to go!” These silly big birds go wherever they want and just hope their feet follow!

Swana is adorable! They're such goofy babies, aren't they?

From what you describe (plus the photos), I do think early lobe development may be what you're seeing.

Thank you! So you mean they will both get this lobe and on both legs? Swana also has white speckle colors on her face, but Tally is solid grey in the face. Will their faces turn white or are we good to nickname Swana “Freckles”? Do you have pics of your girls faces?

Not necessarily, but ideally, Pilgrims have double lobes.

I've noticed that the white on their faces starts with small amounts and then may gradually grow. The girls in the pic below are first year layers, and have varying amounts of white. One of my two year old geese has a mostly-white face.

My guess is that Swana may develop more white on her face. Are you sure that your other goose has no white at all on hers?

Oh how gorgeous your girls are! I love the different faces. No white can be seen on Tally’s face. She does have a big white spot under her bill though. It make it easy to tell them apart!
