My 7m old broadrock banti has puffiness around her eye. It's reddish white color. I see no pus or anything else, but she does scratch so I'm wondering if possibly she scratched around her eye and got an infection. I don't know I'm so new to having chickens, but I love my girls can anyone help with suggestions.

If it's an injury and you don't have any eye ointment, you can use Neosporin in a pinch- that can lubricate the eye as well as provide medication.

It is best if you can get a good picture to post so the folks on here can see and help you better. It could be an injury or caused by an illness. Please post a picture.

Oh wow. she is swollen around that eye. I can't tell an injury per say, but could she have gotten stung Or something like that? is her other eye, swollen ? Her eye Ball looks clear.
Maybe someone else will chime in on this. I haven't had this type of situation before. Hoping it goes down on it's own soon for you. Best to you.

Vetricyn eyegel or saline. Unless your a vet these are your options. Something is definately irritating her eye. You dont necessarily need to seperate her. Just treat it like you would if you had pink eye. Certain thing on our bodies heal faster than others. The key is to flush the eye out with saline to remove the possible irritant and then disinfect.

Thank you for your reply. This is truly a fantastic website especially for someone like me who is new to raising chickens, but after I get my girl healed. I might get some more banti.

I joined because a hawk attacked one of my golden comets when she was about 2 months old. Thanks to all the advice she lived and is now 7 months old. There are a lot of great articles and a lot of past postings that can give a load of advice. Ive been reading and learning ever since that attack and now im ready for most anything. I hope the saline helps. Keep us updated!
