Puffy rears

My 7 hens are developing puffy bottoms. Is this a sign of the heat? They are 16 weeks now. I understand that egg laying begins from 20 to 24 weeks but is this a sign that something is starting to begin in the egg laying pattern. John

Fluffy butts is part of the feather development of your pullets. While 20 weeks is a good time frame for most, keeping an eye on combs becoming bright red is the real clue that the girls are laying or about to lay.

Better get those nest boxes and golf balls ready, it wont be too much longer and your girls are going to need them!!
