July, I bought a straight run and ended up with 2 hens and 1 roo. The rest were dinner. I have been thinking of introducing 2-3 more pullets into the mix but heard if they were really young one of my existing hens would take them under her wing and raise them. Has anyone else heard this? This is my 1st chicken experience. I kept this one roo because he is so beautiful but starting to become aggressive, never to me but to my husband. The roo has made himself a girlfriend and is constantly mounting my hen.....Poor Wilma, she's the smaller one of the two.
Another thought, If Wilma ends up with a fertile egg, could I get a couple more fertile eggs and have her raise them into the others.....????
Do some breeds lay more females??? That's probably a crazy question
