My dad and I have both purchased some maran chickens in hope so getting some of those DARK eggs. He has Copper Black, French Blue Splash and Blues. One of his Coppers has started to lay, but the eggs are not very dark (don't know why). So yesterday my daughter and I decided to play a prank. We took one of my regular eggs and used food dye to dye it a very dark brown. Then we went to dads and she sneaked out to the hen house and placed the egg in the nest. LOL. You should have seen the looks when he went to gather eggs and saw the egg that was as dark as a chocolate bar. Ha, he did figure it out, but it made for a good joke. Isn't it amazing what we do for laughs.
