One of my Black Australorp's keeps making a really loud noise. It is hard to describe, but I looked up the egg song on youtube and it sounds just like that but without the "Bawwcaawwwck!". She is almost 17 weeks old. Non of the others are as loud and annoying. She hasn't laid an egg yet.
Why do you think she is so loud? Is she going to lay soon? Her comb is pretty red. I will have to take a pic of her later and post it.

My New Hampshire is doing the same thing. Like she is yelling at me or something [IMG] She seems to be the alpha of the group so maybe that has something to do with it? No clue, but it sure is annoying [IMG]
  3. That's is simply part of the process before laying. Usually they will get loud a few days to a 2 weeks before laying their first egg. The deep red comb, showing interest in the nest boxes, constant "talking" are all signs. It is just what they do. Whatch how she squats when you bend do to pick her up.
