TOMTE
Chicks from the Disc
My 11 month old BSL pullet Aliss has been doing this honking thing since she was a few months old. I don't worry anymore because it doesn't seem to slow her down any and it only happens occasionally. She's otherwise healthy. That being said I still want to know what's going on with her.
I'll try to get a video next time I notice it happening, which is normally during/after a dirt bath when there's a lot of dust in the air, after running a moderate distance, or while inhaling food (she doesn't know how to eat slowly
).
It sounds like a cough/honk/loud hiccup. Usually it involves moderate head shaking but not always. Sometimes she only does it once, sometimes a few times, sometimes she has a sort of fit that lasts a minute or two. Sometimes during or after these fits she makes a noise that sounds kind of like a crow, but she also does this independently of these fits. Maybe she's clearing her throat? Or is it a crow? She's top of the pecking order so crowing isn't out of the question.
Sorry I don't have video. I know that would be helpful. I'll get one asap!
