Update!! The pullet that crowed just laid her first egg! So she is indeed a pullet. She is nine months old.
After months of pecking away the cockerel who had learned not even to bother with her, I caught them mating last week. The crowing that has gone on intermittently for months also stopped a couple of weeks ago. So I was hopeful that something would appear...then I saw her sitting in the nestbox arranging the straw...and then this appeared!
Woo! (the cockerel is also very pleased by this development
)
