I have 4 pullets in my backyard. (We did have cockerels, but they were rehomed due to suburban ordinances). They're all clearly pullets, and they all lay eggs.
Late last year, our then-boss pullet (Sparkle) got sick and was given medication to pause laying while she recovered. When she was off the lay, another took over as boss-chook (Pippi). Since she started laying again, there has been a power struggle between the two over who gets to lay first.
This morning, Pippi stood at the door of the house, puffed up her chest and crowed . A rusty, half choked sort of sound, but it was definitely a crow.
Is this normal? Shes still laying, and still most definitely a pullet.
