One of my pullets flew somewhere she shouldn't have. When I went to retrieve her I saw that she was bleeding pretty good. I took her inside to wash the blood off and maybe see the cut. Hard to tell, she might have had a couple of cuts along the wing and it looks like a decent tear in the skin on the breast (but no bleeding there).
I didn't want to stress her out, so I put her on the roost in the coop and came here to see what help I could find.
1) What type of bird , age and weight.
Lakenvelder, 9 weeks old, maybe a pound.
2) What is the behavior, exactly.
She seemed very quiet with head down on roost. Clucking.
5) What has the bird been eating and drinking, if at all.
I offered her some water but she didn't drink. This was right before nightfall, so she hasn't drank anything.
6) How does the poop look? Normal? Bloody? Runny? etc.
Just happened, haven't seen poop.
7) What has been the treatment you have administered so far?
Cleaned some cuts with water. Applied pressure where I thought she was bleeding.
8 ) What is your intent as far as treatment? For example, do you want to treat completely yourself, or do you need help in stabilizing the bird til you can get to a vet?
Last time I tried to help a sick/distressed bird it died on me. Just looking for some help on common sense things to do right now that will help without making things worse.
9) If you have a picture of the wound or condition, please post it. It may help.
I'm alone and I wouldn't be able to get a good picture under the wing. Most of the blood is coming from around the wing bone. The breast skin is cut, but not bleeding and there is no damage to the muscle underneath. This opening is about 2".
10) Describe the housing/bedding in use
On a roost in a coop with pine shavings bedding.
