The first eggs a chicken lays are pullet eggs right? How long until the eggs are the standard size for the chicken? I have some that have been laying for a little over 2 weeks. Does it depend on the chicken?

    Thank you.

Most of my pullets have been laying for 2-3 months now. Some of them started out from the beginning laying huge eggs (my red stars) that have stayed a constant size. Others have been slowly getting bigger, so about now (8months old) I've noticed the girls that were laying really tiny eggs have been getting bigger. At least all of the eggs will now fit into a regular egg carton without being really loose. Depends on the breed/how the particular hen matures.
(I hope my little red stars don't lay any bigger eggs! They are my tiniest girls and are pushing out massive eggs that barely fit into the carton! Almost feel sorry for them.[IMG])

One of my girls has been laying for a month now & I have noticed her eggs are much bigger than when she started. The others will come along in time, but they have only been laying for a couple of weeks, but they are still a nice size. Good luck!

Quote:I wonder how I can find out what size these are. They are smaller than the left over store bought ones we have. They fit in the egg crate pretty good. I've seen people with the scale that will tell you what size they are and I don't have on of those. Thank you.

I have a single freedom ranger hen that escaped the slaughter company by being to small at the time the others went and she has just started laying eggs. She lays the TINIEST eggs I have ever seen. lol But my other hens for this year are just beginning to lay decent sized eggs. They started laying about a month and a half ago.
