We have 4 chickens, 3 are females and 1 is a rooster but rarely crows.

First we noticed that Marilyn had built a nest and put some eggs together and spent a little time on the nest but not enough for eggs to hatch.

NOW she wont move from the nest, gets aggressive if you put your hand near her, wont move, very protective of the eggs. What do we need to do once (and if the eggs do hatch) would the other chickens be nice to the babies? Do we separate Marilyn and hopefully the babies from everyone else or do we leave them all alone? We have had chickens for a year but new to this part of the process.

Thanks

I also have a broody BO and decided to let her set on the eggs and hatch them. She's only been on for 4 days now so we'll see how it goes. Right now, she's still in the nest box, but I'm going to move her to her own place probably at night so it doesn't disturb her too much. I think she needs to be kept alone with the chicks, that the hens could hurt them. At least that's what I've read on here. Like you, I've just had them a year and have never let them sit on the eggs. I'm sure someone more knowledgeable will pipe in here!
