Pullet is laying 2 eggs in same sitting UPDATE page 4 Now Lethargic

It is normal that a pullet can lay 2 eggs in a day. They can also lay double yolk.

They sometimes lay 2 eggs in a day, double yolks, and tiny little eggs. Not unusual at all.

It is not normal. Like @aart stated, chickens are not supposed to lay two eggs in one day. That puts a lot of stress on their body and can easily make them have issues if an egg damages the vent, or the pressure having to push out both the eggs makes her prolapse. Definitely not a normal thing that is supposed to happen. A one-off double yolk egg is not harmful because, while it may be larger than normal, it does not have a significant difference and certainly cannot be likened to the pain produced by laying two eggs at once.

I never said anything about laying 2 eggs at once. That chicken has not laid 2 eggs at the same time.

It does happen that pullets can lay more than one egg in a "24 hour period". That is not a myth. I have had them do it every time I have had pullets. But, I never said her chicken, or anyone else's chicken, laid 2 eggs at the same time. I would never even consider that.

I don't think the we need to be making this person think something is wrong with her pullet when it is a hiccup in the laying cycle. But, hey, that is just me.

I don’t know about the “exact” same time. And, I’m assuming by exact you mean one right after the other. But, definitely, in a 24 hour period. And, I’m not saying it is a regular thing. But, I think it is just about as regular as a double yolk when they are pullets.

It could be also that some breeds do it more than others.

Yes, one right after another. Within 30 min I'd guess since I watched her for 45 min and she laid 2 eggs in that time frame.

Ok, I think some might think you meant the eggs coming out exactly at the same time. I never thought you meant that at all.

Did she lay another egg today? I would think probably not.

Anyway, I think she is fine and once she is older and the kinks are worked out she will lay normally. But, that is just my opinion. I don't claim to be an expert even at the things some people claim that I am lol. But, no one thinks I am a chicken laying expert lol. I was sharing my experiences. Anyway, I do hope she is okay for you.

So I didn't watch her vent but I saw her go to the spot where there were 0 eggs. Sit there for 45 min and then leave the coop. She left 2 eggs and she's the only one that lays that color. I'm positive there were not buried eggs because I had just cleaned the coop and I was keeping an eye on her because I suspected she laid 2 eggs on Thursday and wanted to see with my own eyes.

Maybe I'm crazy?...

She did not lay an egg today, thankfully.

So, when I say lay 2 eggs in one day, I would think that the egg cycle was just shortened a little. So, the normal egg cycle is around 25 hours. So, with pullets and their system not completely worked out yet, then, that cycle could be a little shorter at times and you get 2 eggs in a 24 hour period. Then, most times they skip the next day. And, they don't do it regularly, but it can and does happen.

So, I don't know about laying one within 30 minutes. But, I think it could be possible. So, watch her and see what happens. Other than she seems to be laying an extra egg, she seems to be ok?

She's by far my best layer. Basically laying with barely any breaks. She laid 28 eggs from Sept 11 - Oct 12.

Then the last week she took 2 days off in a row then laid 2 eggs in the same day. Then 2 days off, then 2 in the same sitting.

Poor thing deserves a break!

Update: she skipped the last 2 days and laid 1 egg today. Thank goodness! I never thought I'd be relieved to get LESS eggs.
