I have a sweet little cuckoo maran who laid her first egg. Gorgeous. Brown with a flood of dark chocolate speckles covering it. Favorite egg I’ve gotten from my whole mixed flock.

BUT that was a week ago. I know some breeds lay more than others, and that cuckoos can be a little slower. I also understand that new layers can have a slew of irregularities when they start(size, colors, double yolks, soft shell, the works), and that it evens out over time. But is one egg a week normal? I’ve seen people asking about 1 every 3 or 4 days... but nothing about 1 a week

Don't expect a pullet to be regular so soon after starting to lay. There is a lot of coordinating going on inside her newly developing reproductive system. Be patient.

It's actually better for her to take her time and get it right.

Okie dokie, thank you 👍🏻 This is my first year raising chickens myself, and all the other girls that have started laying so far only had a day or two between laying in the first week or two. This one is so different, I just didn’t know if I should be concerned or not. She seemed completely healthy and happy, so I knew it wasn’t anything major
