Yesterday I found the first egg, or should I say eggshell from my babes. (They are 18 weeks old.) Imagine my surprise when I was putting the girls to bed tonight. One laid three eggs right onto my hand, one a tiny hard shell, one stightly bigger soft shell, and another soft that broke immediately upon exit. She seemed a little worn out after that. Never see a girl lay three! Hope she is okay.

:) She's been acting fine since then so I am very hopeful. The pullets are sleeping in their juvenile crate (a long story probably worthy of another thread) in which I found two more eggs this morning (in different corners). Not sure who all in there is laying, but they are starting to lay. Most eggs have been pretty thin-shelled as I was not expecting them to start laying quite so soon. I started them on layer pellets and oyster shells on Monday so hopefully that will get those shells to harden up nicely. One the babes was bold enough to climb into the big girl's coop this morning and even climbed into a nest. She didn't stay long and didn't leave me any goodies, but she's getting the right idea...
