pullet lays while on roost

One of my pullets who has been laying for a couple of months always lays her egg while she's still on the roost in the morning. Of course the egg is always cracked and dirty. Why can't she get with the program? Is there anything that cn be done to teach her the right place to lay? I've never had one to do this before.

Hmmmm, I get the occasional egg from the roost, but not every egg.

I suppose you could try putting her in a nest box first thing in the morning.

Ya good idea, also you can put golf balls in the nesting boxes, or something similar.

I've seen fake eggs in my local pet store and always wondered why they were there.. now I know, they're to set an example! Put about 2 in the nest box and she'll figure it out

We put golf balls in the nest boxes and it worked like a charm...they were laying all over on the floor before now they use the nest boxes all the time

There are always eggs in the nestboxes from the other hens, so putting a fake egg in wouldn't work. I know she sees the other eggs but still lays wherever she is at the time she has to lay. I have found them on the ground outside, under the roost, and on the floor of the coop. I think she has bird brains. LOL
