I have filled out the following template with Gertie’s information:
1) What type of bird , age and weight (does the chicken seem or feel lighter or thinner than the others.)
She is a Prairie Bluebell Egger, she is 11 months old, and idk her weight but her chest bone feels kind of prominent
2) What is the behavior, exactly.
Feather loss
3) How long has the bird been exhibiting symptoms?
Maybe a week
4) Are other birds exhibiting the same symptoms?
No, at least not as much as her
5) Is there any bleeding, injury, broken bones or other sign of trauma.
no
6) What happened, if anything that you know of, that may have caused the situation.
It’s kind of late for molting and she wouldn’t hold still long enough for me to check for mites, so I was wondering if it was stress. She escaped today and a few weeks ago, the first escape being very stressful.
7) What has the bird been eating and drinking, if at all.
She is being offered water and laying pellets (Dumor 16%) 24/7
8) How does the poop look? Normal? Bloody? Runny? etc.
I don’t know
9) What has been the treatment you have administered so far?
Nothing
10 ) What is your intent as far as treatment? For example, do you want to treat completely yourself, or do you need help in stabilizing the bird til you can get to a vet?
Treat myself
11) If you have a picture of the wound or condition, please post it. It may help.
Posted above
12) Describe the housing/bedding in use
Straw
Notes:
- She has some feathers that are still in the shaft (see picture).
- She had mites in June, but I treated her and all the other chickens.
- Every time I touch her she SCREAMS.I think I may just be because she is extremely flighty
- My rooster is a bantam and does not mount her
- She has not layed an egg in a couple of months
