Hello! Our pullet just started laying eggs a little over a week ago. We got an egg every day until a couple days ago. She stopped sitting in the nesting boxes and instead, uses the perch. We figured it was natural because she’s new to laying. We also altered our flock around by giving away our two roosters- and about a day or two after she stopped. Today, i was outside spending time with our chickens when all of a sudden i look down and right behind her was egg?! She was less than a foot in front of me and she layed an egg standing up! The egg was small and soft shelled- but she has access to oyster shells. Is this normal?

this could happen when they don’t have time to use the nesting box, the other chickens could be keeping her out of it, or she just doesn’t want to be normal😂

Sometimes shell less eggs are normal when pullets first start laying. It can take a month or so before a pullet regulates. It can also suggest an interruption in the egg making process, maybe your pullet was given a fright at night while sleeping. Could have been a rodent or Loud noise, anything. I wouldn't worry to much about it. As for laying on the floor of coop while standing, if you have ever watched a hen lay they stand up for that final egg exit part and your pullet must of been caught short with the egg skipping the shell so laid it on the floor. Hopefully I make sense. I had these things happen with my pullets so I know it's worrying but I wouldn't worry just yet 😊
