Hey loves!

I'm a new chicken mom, to our baby we named Milo...

About 8 weeks ago a Chicken Hawk dropped a new born chick at our feet. šŸ„°
The rest is history, was love at first sight.

For awhile I thought Milo was a pullet... just from the way the feathers grew.
The wings developed first, doubling the body size, and then the tail.

This week the comb has started growing quickly (I do live in a tropical climate, idk if that has something to deal with it, as we approach the hotter monthsšŸ¤·šŸ¼ā€ā™€ļø.)

And this morning I swear after the husband left for work at 6am the chick tried to crow, but hasnt since then.

Now I'm confusedšŸ™ˆ.

Is Milo, our new baby, a pullet or cockerel?
Regardless the little one is completely loved.

Just curious on what others with experience (being I have none) think the sex may be?

Also not sure if Milo is a Black Australorp, or Sex Link... shoot maybe even a different breed šŸ¤·šŸ¼ā€ā™€ļø.

Thank you for any advice, guidance and input.
Its greatly appreciated.

This is a tough one, I was thinking pullet until that last picture, the hackle feathers look kind of pointy. Could still be a pullet, but if you think you heard it crow, you almost certainly did, and will again. Pretty bird either way, and what a way to become a chicken keeper!

Can we have a body pic from the side so we can see the tail better? Roos have the pointed neck and saddle feathers. The comb is growing but itā€™s not red red so I donā€™t know for sure.

Of course!
Hopefully this is a better angle šŸ¤—

Thank you for the reply šŸ„°

Definitely was unexpected. The recieving of the chick and the crow.

Definitely is growing into a beautiful bird, and very well behaved. Listens better than the puppy. šŸ„°

This was Milo when she first came into the family.

Crowing = cockerel. There's very little wiggle room if you heard him crow!

But I am still reeling from your story! Milo's is one seriously lucky chicken!!! What a cutie, too!

Right!? So confused šŸ™ˆ

Lol and yeah Milo is definitely a lucky one, yet I wont lie, corny as it is, I feel lucky šŸ™ˆ
Never knew a chickens love is what was needed within my life šŸ„°
