Pullet or Cockerel?

Hey guys! I got all my babies out of pullet bins and checked them over. These two however my husband picked up and trusted the bin labels I’m second guessing pullets. The one is a RIR and the other was labeled as a Sapphire Gem.

Your "sapphire gem" looks to be male. They are sex linked though so he should be barred. I can not tell in the photo.
Need a close up of the RIR behind him.

So I’ve heard the sapphire gem would have a white spot on their head as teeny tinies and this one did not. Just a cute little fluffy grey fluff ball.

I can see in the chick photo that it did have a white marking on the head, does not always look exactly like a dot.
The RIR pictured is a male.
Look closely at the wings on your sapphire gem and you should see some barring, it may be subtle.

It was just a lighter grey spot and I was looking for a full one white spot!

Sadly the Sapphire Gem is indeed a cockerel. Any lighter splotch on the head tells us this :/ In the future, pick Sapphire Gems with an even colored head! It makes me sad just how many people have accidentally done this exact same thing this year These Sapphire Gems are incorrectly labeled as pullets when they were obviously cockerels from the get-go
