Pullet or cockerel?

I was told that with Hatchery quality that the spot can basically get lost. I had one of my barred rock and a cuckoo maran that had a larger white spot than the other. As of right now I believe they are all pullets….really time will tell with mine. They are only 8 weeks on Wednesday.

I guess it would depend on where you got them. But I probably wouldn’t hold a candle to it.
Mine were from hatching eggs I bought from a breeder of heritage and rare breeds. BUT, I also realize that just because they’re from a breeder doesn’t mean they were necessarily bred *well*, and due to my inexperience at the time of purchase, I didn’t ask any questions about how they were bred, their parentage, etc.

If it were me, I would just see what happens and give them time. You may just have some pullets

We thought that one of my French Cuckoo Marans was male -- a chick we called "Big Spot". But today she lays beautiful, large, milk-chocolate-colored eggs. :D
I’m still waiting to see if one that started showing some red on wattles and comb is going to continue…it kinda stopped for about the last 2-3 weeks. I’m wondering if it has something to do with my Amerucauna Rooster kinda taking the lead. Neither the Cuckoo Maran or Barred Rock has made any more changes.

I thought my BR was male at first too, because I was comparing her to what I thought was another BR. Turned out the other was a CM, and that’s why my BR was lighter and had better barring. 🤣

Yeah, there isn’t much to do other than wait, no matter how much I wish I could will them to be pullets. 🤣 I even avoided naming and getting attached to them, so they’d be pullets for sure 🤣🤣
🤣 sounds like what my mom does with cats. If she says they are cute or names them…they die. It’s like an omen 😂. I didn’t let me kids name any of the chickens until just recently.

We did the same, I’ve only named the OBVIOUS ones. Well, except my silkies, because I’m keeping them all, roo or not, I don’t care if I have to build 5 more coops 🤣

😂 one of my older kids wants silkies. I’m still on the fence on them. But I have 3 names picked out already. BUT I for sure want Brahmas and I told my husband he needs to build them their own coop. He agreed as long as he can name the cockerel “papa cock” so amuse him and I can have my Brahmas 😂
