Have a pic of the barred chick in the bottom of this pic?And Hazel, one of his hatch mates at the same age (who I’ve obviously assumed is a pullet lol)

I think so, lemme go digging. It’s storming right now or I’d just go snap one real quick haha. The BR I *think* is a pullet just based on the head spot and leg coloring at hatch. But that comb does seem on the larger side to me, so who knowsHave a pic of the barred chick in the bottom of this pic?
Yeah, just the bird in the OP doesn’t seem to have a comb near that big, and closer to the size of Hazel’s comb. Is it just because of the different breed that it’s considered a big comb for its age? I’m determined to get better at this! LolThis is a cockerel as well.
Marans are known to have large and pink comb early. My splash marans hen had a pink comb since she was 5w old. I suspected she being a boy until she laid an egg at 21w old.Yeah, just the bird in the OP doesn’t seem to have a comb near that big, and closer to the size of Hazel’s comb. Here are both my BR chicks, that I think are both pullets. Three hatched, and based on head spots, 2 of one gender and 1 the other. Then these two got their feathers in much earlier than the third as well. The one I thought was a cockerel passed away, and I was so sad, he was so sweetHave a pic of the barred chick in the bottom of this pic?
Are they pure BRs? If so, both are boys. It's easy to tell BR gender: More white than black in the feathers, it's a boy; More black than white, it's a girl. Male BRs have two copies of barring gene, so they have more white color than females that only have one copy of barring gene. Some BRs are tricky, but most can be determined easily. Here are both my BR chicks, that I think are both pullets. Three hatched, and based on head spots, 2 of one gender and 1 the other. They are! Hmmm, and they are pretty light now that you point that out! Now I’m wondering if I just had the dot thing backwards, or if they were actually all three males… the one that passed I was almost certain was a boy. Do you know about the head dots? What do these look like to you? I *thought* the two on the left side were fairly defined dots, and the big splotchy one on the right was a boy. Kinda hard to see just because they were all piled on top of each other lol. Are these all boys!?Are they pure BRs? If so, both are boys. I was told that with Hatchery quality that the spot can basically get lost. I had one of my barred rock and a cuckoo maran that had a larger white spot than the other. As of right now I believe they are all pullets….really time will tell with mine. They are only 8 weeks on Wednesday. They are! Hmmm, and they are pretty light now that you point that out! This is what I was told in my thread. I missed some of it, that the white spot indicates that it is barred. My bad…IIRC, the size of the spot is *supposed* to indicate the sex, but if you don't breed for it then it gets muddled and mixed up so it's not useful anymore.
