Last weekend I went and picked up two 9 week old chickens. I got a black silkie and an easter egger. I was 90% sure the Easter Egger I got was a pullet until today when she (he?) found the food dish and started making that signature rooster "I found something!" noise. I've had two roosters in the past (that were supposed to be hens) and I remember them both making that noise before I was able to tell they were roos from their feathers (or crowing). Is it possible for pullets to make that noise too? I get so darn attached to these bearded ones!

They love to be toted around in a doggy pile!

This is the one in question:

She doesn't have any saddle feathers but obviously still has a long way to go before she's filled out.

It's hard to tell with the coloring, the actual feathers are round, the grey on them is deceiving.

For comparison, here are my first two Easter Eggers at the same age. It's obvious that one is a cockerel and one is a pullet.

Well they both really look like hens to me. The E.E is very pretty! A lot of our hens make that noise to so I wouldn't worry about that to much. She would especially make that sound if she was the dominant hen!

the ee is a pullet as for the silkie it can still go either way the crest on it right now says its a cockerel but give that one more time to develop
