I have 2 crevecouer chicks 7 weeks old same hatch. One was notably small when I got them at 3 weeks but as they’ve grown they look very different. Thoughts???

I know right!?, strange thing is the comb on the short tail is the red one (1st pic) that seems to be popping up. I’m just confused. Girl face boy tail and boy face lady tail. I can’t figure it out. But they aren’t the same so....

Yeah, it’s definitely going to be a learning experience. Really wish they were both pullets though. They are so attached to each other but I can’t have a roo. 😭

In general pullets feather out more quickly than cockerels, and that includes tail feathers. The one with no tail feathers and a red comb is likely male.

Thanks 🙏 😥. They have had different tails from day 1. The comb development has really solidified that they are not the same gender lol. These pictures are from when they were around 4 weeks or so and you can see the difference in tails even then!

Another question, with great sadness one will be male obviously, would I do better by them by rehoming them together if possible or will they recover if I rehome just the roo? I feel terrible separating them, they cuddle every night. ❤️ But I love the breed and was looking forward to having them.
