Pullet or roo?

I know 😞 I wish it wasn’t the case haha. I’m almost at the point of too attached. Just feels mean to cull. But I know it needs to be done 😞 also how to choose which ones..
When choosing a rooster/cockerel you want one that has good behavior toward you and the pullets.
You want one that does not attack you or try to challenge you in any way. He should be afraid of you and sees you as alpha. He can be friendly toward you as long as there is no aggression.
As for the pullets he should not be overly rough with them. He should also tidbit, shuffle his wings (like a little dance), be aware of his surroundings and sound any alarms when there is danger, and not be overly rough with the hens.
Start observing them and see which cockerel is the better behaved one. You may have to wait until they're about 5 months old.

I think it’s a cockerel too. Bc of the pointy feathers. But 10 cockerels out of 25 chicks is not bad.

You can consider to keep several roosters in a separate coop where they don’t see the ladies (if possible). They won’t fight much if kept apart. And decide which one you want to keep when they are about 6 months old. And the pullets are mature too .

If they are good looking heritage breed you might even make someone else happy with one or two of you’re roosters.
