Pullet pooping on her eggs...

I have a lt Brahma that has been laying for about a month and she almost always poops on her egg. At first I thought (hoped) it was that she was new and her system was working out the process but it is still happening... Is it possible she could still out grow this? Is this normal?

Yes that’s completely normal especially with brahmas, it’s impossible for a hen to poop and lay an egg at the same time. she must be carrying poop on her feathered feet whilst on her way to the nest box, only way to help make them less poopy is by keeping the coop and nest box clean.

I keep the coop very clean. Scooping the poop from the PDZ in the coop every morning. She’s truly pooping before the egg comes out. I wish I had a photo (gross) but it’s a full poop attached to the underside of the egg. Not just dirty smudges

i sugest getting the best nest laying box! its a great product, and it changed my life! my chickens love it! it works by having the girls lay eggs in the box, then the egg rolls down to a place that keeps the eggs safe, but the hens cant poop on it. it is super easy to clean out, and collect the eggs. i highly recomend it!

Some hens can have a hard time "shutting off the valve" so when they push the egg out, some poop comes out with it. If it's a physical thing like that, she may or may not grow out of it.

I had a pullet that had poopy eggs and was laying in odd spots too but now she's completely stopped laying so not sure if it'll continue being an issue later on.

HA! I was just going to ask this very thing. I have a tiny little Egyptian Fayoumi pullet and she lays the perfect cream color egg with a poop on it. Not a smear, but a whole small poop, just like @Mrs.Megan said. I thought it might be because the bird was so tiny, but seems to be an individual thing.

Hello... I currently have a pullet doing this... eggs found in poop outside- but near the coop. Did yours ever correct this or was it always her thing?’ Thanks for your insight 1 1/2 years later
