Pullet-Shut Automatic Chicken Door - Excellent Quality

http://www.chickendoors.com/owners manual.htm

Reading the manual, to change closing times you use a magnet held to the red dot on control at time you want door to open then again that night when you want the door to close.

I was curious about these and looked it up this time, no price on website which makes me think it's withheld due to shock value. It does seem handy for those few days a person is away so you don't need to ask the neighbors to do it.

which defeats the purpose of the light sensor. i've already moved the sensor once. I just have to keep trying to move it.

Your birds roosting late are defeating the light sensor which is why you'd need to program it to close at a later time. Link to manual in last post was to show how to do it.

You can always call the company and ask questions. They'd know more than anyone here.

I emailed them last night. I read the same in the manual. But it is currently 5:30 am and i am out the door. The sun wont be up for another 2.5 hrs.

Tonight when i get home thedoor will already be shut. Short days in Ontario at the moment!

That leves littleopportunity for reprogramming the door unless i want it to open several hours early... which is why i bought the door in the first place: i don't

You may just have to disconnect the sensor and set the door times manually. Is the cord long enough to move the sensor where it may be exposed to more light? If it is a weatherproof cord and long enough, , you may be able to move the sensor farther away from the shadow of the coop or overhang and get a few more minutes before closing. I wanted to go with the light sensor as well, but my coop sits in a very shaded location. Was worried in the summer it might close too early for them, so I just opted for the manual settings. I may try the sensor this spring/summer just to see if it will work. Really like the idea of not having to make several adjustments during the year to account for changing light conditions. The only other option I can think of is if you have power at your coop, you might could rig a small light with a timer that would keep the sensor lit up for another 30 minutes to an hour at the end of the day to fool it.

The guys at chickendoors.com have been very helpful and responsive. I had a number of questions before I bought the pullet shut door and they patiently answered all of my questions and helped me decide which options were the best for my location. They can probably help with your situation. I'm sure they have had it come up before.
