Pullet swallowed a foot of paracord.

Unfortunately I can’t find anything on this. If you it were me I’d go with mineral or coconut oil. I’m thinking if things are a little more “slick “ maybe less likely to bind up. Check crop make sure didn’t bind in there. I’m not vet and no expert. Just trying to think. :fl

Normally the advise it to never pull on something that’s dangling but in this case, there is no way she will digest that. Certainly not with the bell still hanging out.
I think your best option is to try and lube her crop up well with olive oil or coconut oil, and gently remove it as described above. Wrap her in a towel so she can’t shake free and rip it out violently.

That is what I would do if she were mine, and pray she makes it and that nothing gets internally damaged.
If you have access to a vet and the money to spend, now is definitely the time to take her.

The first thing I tried was to pull it out... But it would not budge and was causing her physical distress. I cut the bell off. She seems to be happy at the moment. I let her have some outdoor time - if she's doomed, I'd rather she have a pleasant memory on her last day.

She's tried eating and drinking, and seems alert.

Grass and string are bad enough, but paracord is meant to be tough.

Just when I was starting to thing of making a little cage so that I could start to reintroduce her to her siblings...

Did she swallow the rest of the cord?

Do you have coconut oil you could offer her?
Do you also have grit available?

Yea.. she’s not going to make it if it doesn’t come out.
Have you tried lubricating it before pulling? It will definitely cause physical distress but I don’t see another way besides surgery.

Since you can't pull it out, it will have to go the other way. Hope the stuff isn't too stretchy (I'm not familiar with para-cord at all). I have had cats eat a lot of string, and it came out. Apparently, the worst thing they can eat is a rubberband, since those, tend to tangle in things and cause blockages etc. Hopefully it will pass on through, and oil does sound like the best thing to give initially. Any kind you have (butter, olive oil, coconut etc.). Perhaps the cord will act like a wick and soak the oil up, helping it pass easier.

I also wouldn’t have tried to pull it out it if was getting difficult. It could be wrapped around something. Praying for y’all. Have you been able to check crop or get oils in her?

That's what I was thinking.

I have been able to get some oil in her. I'm not sure how it's do at the other end, but tried dabbing the vent with mineral oil and EVOO. She's so tiny.

If anything were to come out the other end, maybe... But it's not going to be broken up on the way.

:fl It's a waiting game now.

Yes, definitely a waiting game, but don't give up hope! If/when it does start to come out, best not to pull on it then either, though you can cut what is hanging off at the vent (so she isn't dragging it around). Probably take a day or so. Meanwhile, watch her eating and drinking, and maybe feel the crop to see if it has left there or is wadded up in there.
