Hi BYC:
My 21 week old Buff Orpington was hiding out in the coop this morning with her left foot in the air. I picked her up and her middle left toe is all red and shrunken. I brought her inside, the very tip of it looked brown and rotted. When I lightly jiggled the tip of the toenail, it bled on me. She is otherwise normal as far as I can see - roosted last night and came down in the morning with the others.
Is this just a normal toenail injury that will heal on its own or is something more insidious possibly going on?
I have blu-kote, should I put that on?
Does it need to be bandaged?
Should I put her back in the coop with her flock?
Right now she is in a dog crate, laying down but pecking at the floor. She is less energetic than usual as she normally hates to be held but let me carry her around this time.
Thank you for your guidance!
