I have a Serama pullet that has had an eye problem since she was a baby and now it is out of control. hen she was smaller I thought she got something in it so I cleaned with warm wet cloth and then put Microcyn gel. It seemed to help, but keep coming back worse then before. Now I have been putting terramycin and that seem to make even worse. I now have her on doxy and that seems to have made it worse than ever. I'm at the end of my rope. No matter what I try it makes it worse!! What is wrong with her eyes and what can I do to help her before she goes blind!! Thank you so much for any help you can give me!

I had one with the same problem also a serama. She got really bad and shes bling in one and a partially in the other but she can see really up close. She gets along fine eats drinks interacts with others and roosts too. I've used this for 7 days 2 times a day rinsing with saline solution before applying.

I have used that several times, but it gets worse every time. Otherwise she is very healthy. Not in pain and was bouncing around just a week ago. It seems to get better but it comes back worse than before. Also, both of her eyes are like this now. It started out with one and now both are this bad.

Poor thing:hugs
Can you get a bit of a clearer photo?
Have you been pushing the pus out of the eye? Chicken pus needs to be removed in order for them to start healing.
Use sterile saline to flush the eye, remove as much pus as you can, then flush again. Apply your eye ointment. This probably needs to be done at least twice a day.

It would be a very good idea to have a sample from the eye tested - send it to one of the NC state labs or have your vet do it for you.

Get some colloidal silver I've used in a couple birds eyes with the same problem and it helped. Both in the water and in the eye. I'd try the meds again. Are you rinsing before applying the meds or not?

Let me take another photo, but it doesn't look like puss....it looks like the tissue around her eye. Give me a sec and I'll get that for you

Weird. Not exactly related, but my cat Seamus has a chronic eye infection. The shelter gave him to us for free because no one wanted a kitty with a goopy eye. We tried everything, and it seemed the more we messed with it, the worse it got. The vet did several tests to rule out the most significant causes (herpes, staph, allergies, etc), and several hundred dollars later, vet shrugged her shoulders, decided it must me some defect that irritates his eye, and told me to clean it when I felt it needed it. Shoot - as long as it doesn't cause him pain, spread to his other eye, or infect my other cat, who cares? It looks icky, but it's just part of who he is. We call him Crazy-Eyed Seamus.

Maybe your little Serama has a defect, too?

Here is an up close photos and now I can see it better. I'm sorry but even with my reading glasses it is hard for me to see her eyes. I don't have sterile saline but I do have a sterile syringe. Is there a homemade solution I can make for tonight?
