Me again...not having the best go at this chicken thing. Found 22-week old Wyandotte pullet picking at her vent and discovered it is prolapsed. No eggs from any of our flock yet to our knowledge. We just isolated her in the dog crate...her vent is relatively clean but the tissue is hard. I clipped some of her caked feathers away, and there was some blood along with the poo that was stuck on them. We will bathe her and apply ointment, and try to keep it moist at all times, and attempt to re-insert it when once the tissue softens (assuming it will). We have Vetericyn but I was thinking we would try Emuaid since it is not water-based and will probably keep the area moist longer.
Anyway, I have read that wry tail is not a big deal, but I'm wondering if there could be a correlation here, and if it decreases the chance of her healing/surviving. This is now the 5th chicken we have had medical issues with since we got them, and the other 4 have all passed...and I just lost one I thought would recover the other day. Basically, I don't know if I have it in me to put the emotional energy into trying to save this hen if the chances are low that she will survive. I will post pictures of her vent after her bath tonight.
