I have two rods down 8' jumpered together in a very wet area right near the charger and run 10,000 volts through the netting. No ground predator has ever gotten into my pen and I saw a Fisher with 2 kits run through the woods immediately behind where the pen was ultimately constructed. I also have a momma black bear that has been seen multiple times on my property over the years. She's never bothered the flock either.

That is so good to hear. We have 3 ground rods at least 8’ down, probably more (my husband is veryyyy particular about getting things done correctly). We have this solar electric fence .15 joules. American FarmWorks 10 Mile Solar Fence Energizer, TSC Exclusive Battery Monitor, Post Mount, 3-year Warranty, ESP10MN-AFW

15 4’ posts with intervals for wire height.
We were going to wire all brackets so maybe an inch off the ground all the way up.

That much output isn't going to deter anything much larger than a raccoon. I would think a coyote, a dog, a bear or a bobcat wouldn't be deterred by it. Just so you're aware.
I run 1.2 joules and 10,000 volts with a plug-in charger. I went with that size because I knew about the mama black bear and my neighbors 110 lb German Shepherd had killed one of my birds before I penned them up. So I knew I had large predators to deter.
