My little EE girl is starting to have beak issues

It doesn't close all the way now, it was always a little "off", not much....most people wouldn't have ever noticed, but as she is maturing there is definently a gap inbetween her top and bottom beak.

She's 19 weeks, a complete sweetheart wrapped up in a cute banty package. I tried to trim the end of the top beak but was unsure about the bottom, I don't know if I can help her or not. She's fine now, lives the free-range life with all of the other girls, but I don't want there to be a problem down the road with something I could have prevented.

Any ideas for my girl?

(And no--normally I don't bring chickens in the house! LOL But I needed good lighting and it was hot outside).

Up close....it does close a little more than this, but you can see the top is really arched

This is "normal" for her

Someone please tell me I am making a big deal out of nothing!

As long as she can eat/drink fine, I wouldn't worry about it. It is not a severe deformity and she looks quite healthy. I think she'll be just fine.

If the top beak curves harder, you can trim the front tip a bit (not too far) to help it stay aligned better.

Your making a big deal outta nuttin. I had an incubator accident, where a cockerel got out of a cage and ran a muck in my brooder room. Flippin an incubator with 6 BC Marans eggs in them. One egg was totally cracked up. The little bugger still survived. He has grown now. I call him Bald Eagle EYE. He is missing one eye, and has a crossed beak. He eats and drinks just fine. In your case like mine, I doubt we are going to get any ribbons for our birds. But, like the last post said. Your bird looks healthy, and should live a nice happy life. Plus, being an EE, which is like a BC Marans. There are no standards. Which means not worth showing. I would not choose her for breeding. But, she should produce nice green to blue eggs, Eat them up and enjoy your pretty girl.

Thank you both for your replies!

I'm glad to hear that blowing dust in her open mouth won't give her lung infections or she'll starve or something crazy like I was thinking

I know I’m late to this post but I, having the same issue with one of my EE girls and I’m Jw what I can do to help her drink. I know she’s getting water but she’s dunking so much of her face in trying to get it and she’s constantly trying to scratch at the watered. Do I need a wider one? Or deeper? Tia
