Pullets hatched September 2012 & waiting for eggs?

My oldest pullet is supposedly an Ameraucana. However, I suspect that it may actually be an Olive Egger. My Delawares didn't start laying until they were roughly 26 weeks old - and thought that was very late for most pullets. Now, I wish my pullets would have started that early!

SunYoung, Olive egger is still pretty neat! I got my RIR last week of September and got first egg the last week of February so that makes it 23 weeks!

My hatchery RIR have bright red combs and I have lighting in the coop. They also were hatched in mid September. Still no eggs. I checked a few vents. They look like egg laying vents. I have checked the coop and run, no hidden eggs. Mine don't really squat though so maybe they are not as close to laying as I would like. Still our rooster are mounting them quite a bit. Maybe tomorrow, just not Sunday since my husband checks for eggs on Sundays and I really want to find those first eggs.

SallyinIndiana, have your RIR layed eggs yet? I finally witnessed my late September RIR hatched pullet lay an egg today. Found another egg in the chicken run after suspecting her making laying secretly. She must have layed the first egg yesterday

I got my first two eggs yesterday and 2 more today. So 2 out of about 20 chickens started. But they did use the nest boxes. I'm thankful for that. It might be the wooden eggs that attracted them there.

Congrats on your first eggs.

Hi Sally my RIR's are bantams but I think one has started to lay as I found a small egg the other day. I have only found two of these and they were laid two days apart. STILL waiting on my light Sussex. She is my biggest hen and I thought she would lay first.

Mishella69, you'll get eggs soon and it'll be exciting to see the eggs. Ever since my pullet started laying she had not skipped a day! Sunny Days, yes the eggs are quite small than large size eggs RIR are supposed to get. They are long and skinny. Today's 3rd eggs is getting a bit rounder. My kept my chicken in the run from morning until 4PM. Glad to see she lays in her nest box today!

Great thread!! I have 10 pullets that have yet to lay but they were hatched mid October so I guess I have a few weeks to wait! I'm glad to know some are laying first eggs despite the winter. I do have a red lamp in the coop 24/7 but with big SE facing windows, the coop catches the morning light nicely. Hoping soon... right? My gals are 18+ wks.
